The aim of this presentation is to provide an overview of the Ilifu Research Data Management Policy focusing on the open Science, Legal
and ethical issues in data intensive research. The ilifu Research Data Management Policy addresses legal and ethical concerns in data-intensive research. Its ethical considerations involve privacy, consent, and data handling practice. Understanding legal frameworks such as copyright, data privacy laws, and intellectual property rights is crucial and addressing emergent ethical issues in producing, curating, and providing services for open data is essential.

The World Health Assembly has encouraged WHO member-states to establish capacity in health technology assessment (HTA) as a support for achieving universal health coverage (UHC). Simultaneously, the WHO has stated that UHC is “a practical expression of the concern for health equity and the right to health.” This has prompted questions about potential tensions between priority- setting efforts and the right to health on the road to UHC. South Africa (SA) is an ideal setting in which to explore how the priority-setting work of an HTA body may be integrated with an existing rights framework.

The measurement of the large-scale distribution of neutral hydrogen in the late Universe, obtained with radio telescopes through the hydrogen 21 cm line emission, has the potential to become a key cosmological probe in the upcoming years. We explore the constraining power of 21 cm intensity mapping observations on the full set of cosmological parameters that describe the CDM model. We assume a single-dish survey for the SKA Observatory and simulate the 21 cm linear power spectrum monopole and quadrupole within six redshift bins in the range z = 0.25–3. Forecasted constraints are computed numerically through Markov Chain Monte Carlo techniques. We extend the sampler COSMOMC by implementing the likelihood function for the 21 cm power spectrum multipoles. We assess the constraining power of the mock data set alone and combined with Planck 2018 CMB observations. We find that 21 cm multipoles observations alone are enough to obtain constraints on the cosmological parameters comparable with other probes. Combining the 21 cm data set with CMB observations results in significantly reduced errors on all the cosmological parameters.

The aim of the research was to evaluate the traditional exodontia block course. The objectives were to explore the experiences and views of students, clinical teachers and dental practitioners of the various elements of the course curriculum. The study was a qualitative, participatory action research study using descriptive analysis. The study was conducted at a Dental Faculty in South Africa. A purposive sample of students, clinical teachers and dental practitioners were invited to participate. Focus group discussions were used to collect data which was analysed by an external coder. The study population consisted of 15 undergraduate dentistry students, 10 clinical teachers and seven dental practitioners. Four broad themes with sub-themes emerged from the study. The main themes identified strengths and deficiencies of the traditional course and made recommendations for its improvement. The themes identified were i) Integration of knowledge and skills, ii) Block course structure, iii) Challenges associated, and iv) Recommendations for improvement.
