On Barnard Street, Elardus Park in Pretoria men are standing, raising a finger or miming a skill to attract the attention of potential employees. It is also common to see men swarm around a car, pointing to themselves in an effort to get noticed ad thus hired. This study deals with these people, who are day labourers leading a difficult life as they manage to survive in an entrepreneurial way. Their main need is to access work more easily. Skills training would make this possible. Social work could make a contribution in this respect.en_US
