Introduction: In view of the references to the “poor working conditions” of social workers (Kusambisa in Chibba, 2011), which make it a challenge to retain social workers in rural areas (Kruger, 2008:44), and the exodus of social workers from the profession in search of “better working conditions” (Dlamini in Ngomane, 2010:4), the researchers’ decided to embark on a research project with the aim of revisiting and exploring the working condition-related challenges experienced by social workers practising in rural areas.en_US
